“Legacy”

Welcome to my third column for Mouth Full Of Bullets. In my first column, I suggested that you should know your reviewer and what he or she reviews. The second column was sort of a do’s and don’ts based on personal experience regarding reviews and how to ask for a reviewer to consider your work. If you put both columns together, it should give you some marketing strategy to promote your recently released novel. I had something somewhat different planned for this issue and then BJ told me what had happened and his plans.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Keith W. Harjes’s death. While I did not know him, I felt like I sort of did a little through his posts online as well as things that were passed on to me from BJ. The news of his death came about the same time as I learned the horrible news that Dr. Patricia Ferguson had died as well. She was something special as others far more eloquent than I have tried to explain elsewhere. I had the pleasure of working with her from time to time through my work for Apollo’s Lyre. Even when I wasn’t doing anything there, she would come across my online stuff elsewhere and drop me a note in gentle support or constructive criticism. Always a lady and always on target, I miss her tremendously and the world is a little bit darker for her passing.

I know BJ has dedicated this issue to Keith W. Harjes and I think it’s a wonderful idea. In my own small way, I would also like to dedicate this column to the memory of Dr. Patricia Ferguson, my online friend. You are sorely missed.
