Nothing Deadlier Known To Man by John Weagly

On the screen in

Black and white

Rita Hayworth in “Gilda”

Barbara Stanwyck in “Double Indemnity”

Joan Bennet and Gloria Grahame and Lauren Bacall

And all the rest

Femme fatales from fantasyland

Gals a guy could play the sap for

Divinity full of

Hard-edged curves

And soft-tongued sass

But their hearts are armored in betrayal

So many hours watching

On DVD

And in dreams

Do they need a slap?

Or a kiss?

Or something that can never be?
